Back in 1992, as the East Pictou Rural High School community began to prepare for the 40th anniversary of the school, organizers were overwhelmed by the tremendous interest in the event. Their plans for a three-day celebration in the summer of 1993 were met and exceeded by a country mile.
Former students and staff of the school came from all over the globe to celebrate the success of the school which had influenced their life journey so positively. Organizers recognized an opportunity to do something which would enrich the school community well into the future. They established the EPRH Educational Foundation and spread the word that any profits realized from the 40th anniversary would be used to form the Foundation. With over $40,000 in their bank account by the fall of 1993, they became formally incorporated as a registered, non-profit organization and have been doing great things for the school ever since. Besides assisting with needs on site (computer labs, playing field, music program, bursaries, grade awards, etc.) the Foundation is able to solicit and receive donations from individuals and companies as a charitable organization. It also sends out newsletters and organizes annual class reunions. New high schools are being built in Pictou County but the future of this organization is bright and long-ranging. Its main goal is to enhance educational opportunities for students of Pictou East, no matter what facility they are attending.
The wheels are now in motion to celebrate the 50th anniversary of East Pictou Rural High School, beginning in September, 2002 and ending with a giant event July 25th to 27th, 2003. This web site has been developed to keep you abreast of activities as they are planned and also to seek your input. Thanks to modern communication we can call upon your talents, no matter where you live on this planet.
